Designer Dog Crossbreeds You Never Heard Of
There are many reasons why we love our dogs. They are loyal, smart, affectionate, and adorable. They can also help us stay fit and healthy. They aren’t just pets; they are a part of the family.
If you are a dog lover, you know that a dog is for everyone. There are big dogs, small dogs, active dogs, lazy dogs, fluffy dogs, hairless dogs, dogs with small snouts, and dogs with long snouts, just to name a few examples.
While there has always been a large number of dog types and breeds, there are more and more possibilities being added all the time through crossbreeding.
When it comes to crossbreeds and designer dogs, the sky’s the limit for the combinations you can have. Some are very popular and are already household names. These include breeds such as the Labradoodle and the Maltipoo.
However, there are other crossbreed dogs that you may not be familiar with. They are no less adorable and fun, but they aren’t known in the mainstream yet.
Here are some of those designer crossbreeds you’ve never heard of but might still find a place in your heart.
Cavachon
Cavachons are a cross between a Bichon Frise and a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.
They are characterized by their big dark eyes and naive and innocent expressions. They love to play and be adventurous, so make sure to keep anything you don’t want to get chewed up off the floor.
Even if they do get into trouble, you won’t be able to stay angry at a Cavachon when they look at you with those innocent and loving eyes. They are very gentle and friendly, but with a splash of the Bichon’s goofy personality mixed in. They don’t shed much, so they are great for apartments and people with allergies.
Weimador
This crossbreed is a mix of the Labrador and a lesser-known breed, the Weimaraner. Weimadors are very energetic and love to work.
If you can take them for long walks and play games in the yard, then a Weimador will do well in your household. They are smart and easy to train, as long as you make it challenging enough for them not to get bored. They like to socialize, so children and other pets should not be a problem.
A Weimador does not like being alone, so they go well with big families where someone is always at home or people are coming and going. You will need to train them against separation anxiety no matter what.
Chug
Chugs are known for their tiny bodies that hold outsized personalities. They are fun and rambunctious and love to exercise and play. If you are not a high-energy person, that’s okay, because the Chug is tiny enough that it doesn’t take much to tucker one out. They are very affectionate and demand attention, so be ready to offer them both.
A Chug will get along well with kids but can be territorial if not trained properly with other animals. They have a slightly squashed snout like a pug, but it’s not too pronounced because of the influence of the Chihuahua. They like to think they are bigger than they are, which makes them great guard dogs.
Yorkiepoo
The Yorkiepoo crosses the Yorkshire Terrier and the Toy or Mini Poodle. They are known for their confidence. A Yorkiepoo will show off and play when they are around others.
In addition, they are well known for their agility and their athletic feats. While a Yorkiepoo is small, it can jump higher and run faster than you would ever expect.
They love to be affectionate with their pack, so you can expect to spend evenings with a Yorkiepoo in your lap while you watch television or read your book.
They do not produce a lot of dander, so they are great for homes with allergic people. While you might not have heard of them, you can find Yorkiepoo puppies for sale quite easily if this is the type of dog you are looking for.
Schnoodle
One of the interesting things about the Schnauzer and Poodle cross is how much they can vary in size. There are giant Schnauzers and Mini Schnauzers, which means that a Schnoodle can be as small as 5-10 pounds and as big as 65-70 pounds.
They are very smart and adaptable, making them a great choice for first-time dog owners or for those who want less maintenance. That said, they do require a solid amount of exercise and activity.
They love to play and show off and are well-known for doing funny things like running in circles or chasing bugs. Unfortunately, a Schnoodle tends to bark, so you will have to train that behavior out of one.
Shorkie
The shorkie is another cross-breed that loves to yap at anything and everything. This can be trained out of your dog, but some owners like the fact that they will certainly be alerted if anything is amiss. This is a cross between a Shih-Tzu and a Yorkshire terrier.
They are small and have the facial shape of the Shih-Tzu. However, they have the fur and expression of a Yorkie, which makes them incredibly adorable.
They are high-energy dogs, so expect to play a lot. That said, they also love cuddling, so don’t be surprised if your days are spent alternating between the two.
When it comes to bringing a dog into your home and family, there’s no reason to do what’s popular. You need a dog that fits with you, and that could be a dog from any of the many breeds. Choosing a unique breed can also make you a trendsetter yourself, if not around the world, then at least in your community. Keep this list in mind when you are ready to get your next dog.
